What we do

A simple idea.
A serious purpose.

PlayFit brings together clinical expertise, sport partnerships and community energy so prevention becomes part of everyday youth sport in Gibraltar.

Local vision, local action A Gibraltar grown model connecting medicine, sport and community trust.
01 • Screen

Find concerns earlier

Fit2Play uses medical history, clinical assessment and ECG screening to help identify young athletes who may need further review.

02 • Educate

Raise awareness

We help athletes, families and coaches understand warning symptoms, safer participation and when to seek help.

03 • Connect

Make follow up clear

Screening matters most when it is connected to results, advice, referral and appropriate clinical governance.

Fit2Play pathway

From first check to next steps.

A structured route connecting screening, interpretation and follow up for young athletes.

1 Screen Medical history, clinical assessment and ECG.
2 Review Athlete specific interpretation by clinicians.
3 Follow up Clear advice or referral when indicated.
Fit2Play

A safer pathway for young athletes.

One organised programme bringing cardiac screening, athlete specific review and clear follow up together for families, clubs and young athletes.

Simple for families Clear information before and after screening.
Clinically governed Structured review and appropriate escalation.
Built for sport Designed around young athletes and club settings.
Why it matters

Rare does not mean irrelevant.

Sudden cardiac events in young athletes are uncommon, but their impact can be profound. Prevention means being prepared, recognising warning signs and building safer systems around the next generation.

Evidence base

Built on evidence.
Made clear for families.

The science is nuanced, but the message is clear: screening can help, interpretation matters and follow up must be done well.

Evidence that leads to action Good screening is not just testing. It is careful review, good judgement and clear next steps.
Screening can save lives

The Veneto experience remains one of the most cited examples of reduced sudden cardiovascular death following structured athlete screening.

Corrado D, Basso C, Pavei A, et al. JAMA. 2006;296(13):1593, 1601.
ECGs need expert interpretation

Athlete ECGs are different. Modern international criteria help distinguish training-related changes from findings that require investigation.

Drezner JA, Sharma S, Baggish A, et al. Br J Sports Med. 2017;51:704, 731.
Youth screening has value

Large paediatric athlete screening data show that conditions at risk of sudden cardiac death can be identified across youth age groups.

Sarto P, Zorzi A, Merlo L, et al. Eur Heart J. 2023;44(12):1084, 1092.
